Find a girl who reads. You’ll know that shedoes because she will always have an unread book in her bag. She’s the one lovingly looking over theshelves in the bookstore, the one who quietly cries out when she finds the bookshe wants. You see the weird chick sniffing the pages of an old book in asecond hand book shop? That’s the reader. They can never resist smelling thepages, especially when they are yellow.

Find a girl who reads because you deserveit. You deserve a girl who can give you the most colorful life imaginable. Ifyou can only give her monotony, and stale hours and half-baked proposals, thenyou’re better off alone. If you want the world and the worlds beyond it, find agirl who reads.

Hello Everyone!

2012 has started off on an exciting note for "Captured In Pixels". I can't believe February is completely booked! This is all so new to me and I'm learning how to juggle a full time job and be responsive to all the emails. I want to apologize for not responding as quickly as I would like to but I promise, I'm getting to your emails. Thank you, thank you for even thinking of me to capture your moments.

As you all know, I do photography on the weekends only... so my time and dates are limited. I thought I would put a tentative schedule out there to help, not only you, but myself plan better. I learned from last year that I prefer to book a small number of shoots and make those extra special. Last year taught me to put more time in my products and deliver something that I'm proud of. I hope you all can understand.

{Family Session} the Pots

The night before a shoot, I like to mentally prepare myself. I run through poses in my head, check the settingson my camera, and make sure everything is charged & ready to go. I envisioned this particular shoot to bebright and lively {since the Pots have two girls}. I pictured the sun to be peaking in the backgroundand highlighting their faces. I had bigthangs for this shoot.

The first thing I did when I woke up was open my windows tocheck the weather. I was sure the brightsun that I had envisioned would greet me. Instead I saw dark clouds. I keptmy eye on the clouds - hoping the sun would break but no luck. At around 1:30 I called Sara to talk aboutthe weather. After speaking with her wedecided to shoot and make the most of it. My mind started racing about camera settings for cloudy weather or whatif it rained?

I was put at ease when I arrived at the location and when Isaw the Pots. They were the sunshine Iwas hoping for. Seeing the girls dressedso beautifully in their white & gold dresses, Sara looking gorgeous withher hair & makeup all done, and of course Sak in his suit… made me so happy!

the Pots - I have sooO much more to show you but for now, I'll leave you with an extended preview! I hope you enjoy :) Make sure you let Sammie see, haha!!

Angie, Logan & Jacob... and Gunther

I was getting a tour of my new job at a day care when Ms. Linda introduced me to Ms. Angie. Up until this moment, everyone I met seemed a little preoccupied and less than thrilled to be there. Angie was different. She welcomed me with such sincere eyes and a sweet smile.

I had the joy of having Jacob in my class and once again, I completely fell for the blue eyes. Mr. Michael and I were trying to settle the kids for nap time but all we heard were rustling noises from Jacob. After repeatedly telling him to take a nap, he got up from his cot, walked up to us, and with his blue eyes and pouty lips said he couldn't sleep because {insert any silly reason here}. Jacob suggested he quietly play with his toys on his cot. Yeah... I was a sucker. Good thing for Mr. Michael!

It's crazy to see how big these boys have gotten. You know what's even crazier? How Angie manages to get even more gorgeous year after year. I met up with the family and their pup to do their family photos. We had a blast! Well... maybe everyone but Logan, haha! I'm convinced deep, deep down inside Logan had a good time.

Michael, Elisa & Jake

I was trying to find a way to get in on this family session. Maybe I could be the distant aunt that does photography. After all, I've taken Jake's baptism and 1 year pictures. That pretty much makes me family, right? Oh!... and if that wasn't enough, Michael and I are huge Toms fans. If that doesn't say family, than I don't know what does.

All joking aside, I love that Elisa, Michael and Jake have let me into their family by choosing me to capture their moments. I've seen Jake as a happy baby sitting in his bumbo {is that what's it called?} while his mommy and I baked, I was there when he first visited the park, and now I see him walking and just being so handsome.

I adore this family and I hope to capture more moments of their lives :)

{Senior Session} Rachel

I'm convinced that Rachel could walk into any room and brightensomeone's day with just her smile. It's just that beautiful! And if you don'tfall in love with her smile {you might be dead inside if you don't} than she'llget you with her bubbly, carefree personality. Oh!... and let's not forget herincredible blue eyes. When I was editting her photos, I couldn't believe howblue and gorgeous they were. I should mention I didn't edit them. At. All! Iadjusted the exposure and shadows and her eyes would take a life of their own. Ithink I stared in awe for quite a bit. I'm just a sucker for blue eyes. Blueeyes and a beautiful smile. Particularly yours, Rachel! I pray that you will always find reasons to smile :)

{Senior Session} Tobin

It’s as if Ms. Chanel knew Tobin. I can't think of two better words todescribe Tobin. Every week she comes tochurch dressed to perfection – always! I, on the other hand, am happy if I make it to church with my haircombed. Tobin, you set the bar too highfor us… can you bring your cuteness down a notch. Maybe just for me?

Before I share her beauty with you, I would be doing you aninjustice by not telling how wonderful she is too! She has the sweetest, most pure heart. I could honestly sit for hours and listen toher speak about her future, goals and dreams.

Tobin, I pray that life presents you with the best opportunitiesfor your talent to shine. I pray thatyou keep hope in your heart {always} and the world softens because of yourpresence!

Glory Days

I had never been to a high school dance but there I was withmy brother, talking about Prom and what approach I should take when asking mymom if I could go. The option of Promwasn’t something I entertained. Thethought of my mom saying, “NO!” was.

So there I was, sitting in the living room waiting for the perfect moment toask. I don’t remember the exact words Isaid. I just remember opening my mouthand having words come out and looking at my mom to see her reaction. She said, “no” the first few times but mybrother interjected {She has no problem saying no to me but put my brother in andthe scenario changes.} Surprisingly, shesaid I could go! I wanted to jump fromthe couch and scream, “YES!” but I kept it cool.

I went to Prom with a friend. I figured I had the best of both worlds. He was a good friend of mine, super funny andliked to dance. I wasn’t going to Promfor the romance aspect. I wanted to bewith my friends and do something in my last year of high school. Let’s just say, my date didn’t get the memoon the kind of experience I wanted. Iended up leaving Prom at 10:30pm and asking another couple to take mehome.

Rachel & Tobin! Your high school days are little different than mine but regardless, enjoyit now and create memories to look back on. And if you ever want to share any stories with me, I’m here foryou. I may just impart some of my wisdomyour way, haha!

Van & Duc

I’m such a creeper… eh, I mean people watcher {yeah… that’sthe better term}. I’ve learned a lot frompeople watching… really! Let me share.

I’ve learned how to wear scarves inlike 10 different ways.
The FBR is the place where drunkards exist. Within minutes of walking in, I saw a guy walking towards me. I began counting, 1... 2... and without missing a beat, he fell down on the 3rd count.
I've ordered some yummy plates just be looking over to the people next to me and across the restaurant.
I saw a couple at The Script concert {cute date, huh?} and was able to tell the girl was waaaay more into the guy than he was. Body language speaks volumes.
I know to always check/pull down my dress when getting out of the car. I witnessed an offender this past weekend.
I observe love at its best when an older couple walks past me holding hands.
I noticed kids are super smart. When mommy is on the phone or distracted, they know it's the perfect moment to get what they want. "Uh huh... sure, honey!"
I like when I catch eyes with a fellow "watcher". There's either a slight nod of recognition or an awkward stare of "uh... did she just catch the way I looked at that person?" Most likely the answer is, "yes... you creep! Stop giving us "watchers" a bad rep."

This past weekend I met up with Van & Duc to do theirengagement photos. Being the watcher I am, I couldn’thelp but stare and smile at their beautiful union. What I saw was something I could only dream up in my head. Something that got lost in theshuffle of reality. I wanted to grabthat something, bottle it up, run to my room and put it in a safe place! That “something”could only be felt and seen when you’re in their presence!

There’s warmth… and not just for each other but everyonearound them. There’s respect in the waythey speak and act with each other. There’sadoration with every glance and spoken word. There’s patience in knowing to trust God and to wait for Him to blessyou with each other. There’s a playfulnessthat can only be mirrored to a child running through the sprinklers on a hotday. There’s a love that’s meant foreternity.

I’ve always felt my role in photography was more… more thanjust taking pictures and having a little side business. My goal isn’t {nor will it ever be} to be bookedout for months or make a killing from it. My goal is to create relationships and buildfrom them. I love getting to know someoneon a one-on-one basis… it’s more personal and intimate! I love hearing their stories and having them affectme.

Which got me thinking. My mind became very excited and wentin all sorts of tangents. After settlingmy mind, I came up with a project I want to work on in 2012! I want to capture women who want toshare their story through photography. Iwould love to capture someone for each month. It’ll be my… my… my "Year of Beauty"! But I need your help. Here’s whatyou can do for me…

You know that special woman in your life? Yeah…that one! A mom, teacher, sister, friend, aunt, churchgoer, teenager, etc… I want you to tellme about her. What makes her special? How has she affected your life? What have you learned from her? {Please don’t hold back on the details.} Let this be your “love letter” to them. :)

Starting in January 2012, I’ll pick someone based on yourletters and give them a photography session. I’m hoping I can turn this “Year of Beauty” into something reallyspecial and memorable. Oh!… if there areany hairstylist or makeup artist reading this and wants to team up, pleaseemail me!
